Preparation

Before attending the tuturial, make sure to prepare the following:

What are we going to do?

We are going to talk about the User Experience (UX) of Recommender Systems (RS):

  • Theory: we will discuss existing user-centered work on input mechanisms, output aspects, and user characteristics
  • Formative Evaluation: we will teach you how to conduct two common formative evaluation methods
  • User Experiments: we will teach you how to scientifically evaluate recommender systems using a user-centric approach
  • Statistical Analysis: we will teach you how to conduct Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Modeling
  • Emerging Directions: we will discuss emotions and personality, social recommender systems, and self-actualization
